Time has flown by.....I am so excited to start a new year. I miss my students and I look forward to meeting new students that are entering my class. I have great things planned for this year. But first....let me tell you about what I did this summer that was fun and exciting.
My husband Nate, brother-n-law Hakim, sister-n-law Kyera, and as my husband puts it, "our brother from another mother," Theo, were on Family Fued with Steve Harvey. Yes, that is right....we had a blast. I can't say if we won or not but, I will let all of you know the show dates so you can check us out.
I also had a great time with my children Jaleel, Jade, Jathan, Jalen, and Jael. We went swimming, to local parks, and ate lots of food. I am proud to say my oldest son got his first job this summer playing the drums for a local church. Also, my daughter competed in the National American Miss Pageant and earned a spot to compete in Hollywood, California this November.
Needless to say, my dogs are still fine Ambush and Hercules, they still live with us....I am overwhelmed with excitement (just kidding) but, they are doing well.
So, enough about me, as I stated earlier this year I have quite a few changes that I never implemented before. One major change is to do most of the direct instruction in class in small groups with students rotating to different groups through out the period. It will take practice but, I believe it will allow me to provide more personalized instruction for each of my students.
In addition, I am excited to start a class blog where students will be creating articles to submit to our blog. I started a personal blog this summer and it has been so exciting. I am sure the students will enjoy their very own blog.
Of course we plan on continuing with the Feed the Homeless program with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Miller. I have plenty of field trips planned including a big trip to Gettysburg National Park and Museum this coming Spring. This year I would like to have several days where parents are invited to come in our class and spend time with us through out the day. So, stay tuned.
Finally, this year this website will be the gateway to help you know what is going on in the class. I will be providing class information, tools, resources, and updates. Please feel free to check this website out anytime. You can also contact me through this website or you can continue to email me at my school email email@example.com.
Overall, I know this year is going to be great, especially if we work together to help your child achieve. Here we go off to a great year......
Where does the time go!!!!! We are already in the middle of the year and I am so proud of the work that the students have completed. IN ENGLISH, students have completed a 500 word Persuasive Essay on a controversial topic of their choosing. The students were challenged in writing but, majority of them rose to that challenge. IN HISTORY, the students have just completed PowerPoint presentations on a Civil War Battle of their choosing. Amazing work! The students really got into the project. I was so proud of them later on this month, I invited administrators and parents to come witness their great work. IN SOCIAL SKILLS, the students have been learning about skills and character traits needed for the workplace. Some of the themes we have been learning about are Embracing Difference, Acting Responsibility, Being a Good Leader, Being a Teamplayer. Some of our class discussions have been very interesting to say the least. FINALLY, we are gearing up to go to Fort Mott and Pea Patch Island in April and travel to The Gettysburg Battlefield in May. So, stay tuned to hear about our field trips! Mrs. Chandler
Hello Parents, Students, and Friends,
The school year has finally arrived. We have gotten off to a busy, busy, start. We have many new initiatives going on, I can hardly keep up but, keep up I WILL! First, I would like to welcome all of my new students and returning students. I am excited to have you all in my class this year.
This year, I have some fun things in store for you but, I would like to explain to you about some of our initiatives. This year students will be tracking their learning and their progress by keeping a Learning Goal Folder. Students will rate their learning if they fully understand the material, understand some of the material, or need help in understanding the material. As they learn more about a given subject they will rate their learning. I am excited to implement this because, research shows that students who track their own learning improve over 30%! Exciting News to me!
Of course, we will have a great time learning about life and the real world. This is why we will be going on our field trips to Central Baptist Church and various places....like..............
NEW YORK!!!! We are going to visit Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty! We are moving upward and we are going. Great things are planned! Looking forward to a WINNING year!
